About the position

The PhD project is co-financed by Norwegian research council IKTpluss project (Health democratization https://www.ntnu.edu/iik/healthdemocratization) and H2020-GIFT (https://www.gift-h2020.eu/). You will develop method for fusing BIM data, IoT data and related information in a digital twin, and method on improving accuracy of measured information through AI, with emphasizing on the information privacy and security. 

Furthermore, the method will be validated through the case studies in energy, transport and health care sector.

You will tightly cooperate with other PhD and Post doctors in these two projects, and the research group at department.

You will report to Head of Department.

Duties of the position

  • developing the secured data fusion method for BIM data, IoT data and natural language-based information
  • developing the secured data mining technology to improving the accuracy of IoT data (e.g. indoor air quality)
  • developing the digital twin for smart hospital/nursing home in Health democratization
  • developing the digital twin for building in GIFT project
  • communicating with local and international partners on information flow and cooperation
  • regularly publish results in scientific journals and conferences, and present to project stakeholde supporting the new project development within digital twin and data analytic for sustainable built environment 

Within the project, small-scale prototyping and experimental validation of digital twin in hospital and building will be performed. You will be a member of the group of digital twin for sustainable built environment at NTNU.

Required selection criteria

The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is that you have completed a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in civil engineering/software engineering/electrical engineering or equivalent engineering education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you are unable to meet these criteria you may be considered only if you can document that you are particularly suitable for education leading to a PhD degree.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

Other required selection criteria

  • knowledge in data mining, semantic web and linked data
  • knowledge in Computational fluid dynamics
  • good written and oral Norwegian or other Scandinavia language 

Preferred selection criteria

  • direct experience on development in existing building information modelling tool
  • direct experience on development in ANSYS or other CFD tools
  • relevant publication in peer reviewed journals

Salary and conditions

PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 479 600 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years.

Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme in engineering (PhD in Engineering) within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.

About the application
