The School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering is a multi-disciplinary centre of research and education located in the heart of London’s vibrant design community. It is proud of its research advances and of educating thousands of undergraduates and postgraduates in STEM subjects.
Engineering at City is renowned for its extensive state-of-the-art facilities. The London Space Institute (LSI) was established in 2020 recognising that space research is multidisciplinary covering fields including engineering and physical sciences, data analytics, computer science and artificial intelligence.
Responsibilities
The School is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic as Senior Lecturer or Reader in Biomedical Engineering. The appointed academic will contribute to the delivery of high-quality education in the Biomedical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering programmes; attract PhD funding; supervise PhD students; and develop, plan, conduct and publish world-leading research in Biomedical Engineering.
The appointed academic will lead and enhance research in relevant Research Centres and develop an internationally recognised research group supported by several income streams. They will provide education in Medical Physics, Instrumentation, Medical Devices and Imaging; lead curriculum development in Biomedical Engineering, particularly in emerging topics; undertake other academic and management duties; and play a leading role in the development of the School's external profile.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have a first degree and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related discipline; knowledge in either Medical Physics and Instrumentation; Medical Devices and Imaging; Digital Electronics; or Embedded Systems; an international record of collaboration with industry and with other academics with world-leading or internationally excellent publications; appropriate membership of a relevant professional body depending on experience and grade; and a good understanding of modern trends in higher education and the Engineering employment market in the Biomedical sector.
Appointment as Reader will require significant leadership experience in education delivery and a strong research record with accomplishment in grant applications.
