Doctoral student in modelling of fusion plasmas

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, EECS

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Project description
Third-cycle subject: Electrical engineering

The goal of this project is to develop in-depth understanding and theoretical models for how radio waves can be used to heat a fusion plasma. The project requires a candidate with a deep interest in physics and modelling. An interest in programming is an advantage, but the project can be adjusted to suit the interests and strengths of the candidate.

The project will be supervised by Associate Professor Thomas Jonsson at the Fusion Plasma Physics Division and is financed through a grant from VR (Vetenskapsrådet). Thomas’ group works primarily with the development of numerical models that they use in their research at the leading European research facilities, like JET in the UK and AUG in Germany. Thomas also have a leading role within a European project on integrated tokamak modelling and is affiliated with the ITER physics group through a science fellowship.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by:
