Position Focus:

Working as a member of the treatment team at the PRIME Clinic and Treatment Program at the Yale School of Medicine, supports the ongoing research in various protocols as well as the clinical care provided in the outpatient clinic. The Research Assistant will assist in the recruitment of subjects for studies, scheduling and preparation of materials for study visits and therapy sessions, conducting structured interviews and collecting specific data in a variety of environments according to the specific study protocols.

The RA will also be responsible for collecting and processing of specimens in the clinic environment and for performing chart reviews to identify specific criteria for studies. Will also participate in presentations and community outreach, orientation and engagement of subjects to research protocols and conduct literature research supporting publication efforts.  The Research Assistant will also assist in coordination of subject's care between the clinic and community providers. assist in educating the subject about managing their mental health issues and general health and help patients obtain information about community resources, attend clinic treatment team and treatment planning meetings, document interactions and services according to clinic and CMHC policies, and provide support to family members as needed. The Research Assistant will also conduct data entry as needed per the study protocols and conduct data analysis if requested.

Essential Duties

  1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments.
  2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.
  3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities.
  4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures.
  5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff.
  6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Prior experience (paid or volunteer) with individuals suffering from mental illness. Comfort working with people with a Schizophrenia spectrum disorder, including the prodromal, active and residual phases or other serious mental health conditions.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated proficiency with SPSS and data analysis.  Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Excellent communication skills.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in a related field.  Previous experience on a research study working with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia.  Experience with neuro-cognitive assessments. Prior experience working with patients in a clinical or research setting.
