Job Description Summary
The Biosecurity Coordinator supports practical biosecurity and infectious disease control programs for the teaching hospital and the New Bolton Center (NBC) campus. Job Description
The Biosecurity Coordinator supports practical biosecurity and infectious disease control programs for the teaching hospital and the New Bolton Center campus. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations and the Director of Biosecurity. Oversight of routine patient monitoring and surveillance activities to ensure appropriate and timely sample submission, accuracy of data entry, and effective monitoring and reporting of results. Collection and submission of weekly and periodic environmental samples from the hospital complex and other parts of the NBC campus along with meticulous record-keeping of sample submissions and results. Assist the Director of Biosecurity with communication of biosecurity programs to other members of the hospital community and assist in a teaching capacity when applicable.

Assist in the production and dissemination of information of the policies and protocols of the biosecurity program including adding and updating information on the biosecurity website. Assist in the development of related educational materials for animal owners, veterinary students etc.
Participation in research projects that may include database and medical records searches, uploading of sample results into the hospitals information system or special sampling and submission procedures.
Assist the Director of Biosecurity with communication of biosecurity programs to other members of the hospital community and assist in a teaching capacity when applicable.
Answer straightforward biosecurity-related questions and assist in identifying problems with the implementation or adequacy of biosecurity policies and procedures.
Weekly inventory and ordering of personal protective equipment for the hospital.
Qualifications
Associates degree or two year college equivalent required with 4 or more years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education & experience. Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written & oral) and organizational skills are required. The candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision to accomplish daily and more long-term tasks and have shown evidence of good problem-solving abilities. Reasonable proficiency with data management and word processing software such as Excel & Microsoft Word, respectively, is necessary. For example, the candidate should be able to create, manage, and at minimum be able to perform simple sorting and analytical procedures in Excel and produce written reports in MS word. Willingness to expand and strengthen computer skills as needed is also essential. An understanding of transmission routes for infectious diseases and the role of epidemiological surveillance in infection control is highly desirable. Experience of conducting and managing a surveillance program would be an asset.
