Do you have substantive generalist HR experience gained at senior level in a large, complex organisation and a firm grasp of UK employment law and equality and diversity issues? Are you looking for a challenging role in an environment that’s open, vibrant and welcomes new ideas? Then join the University of East London as an Employee Relations Manager.

It’s a particularly exciting time here at the University as, under our new 10-year strategy, Vision 2028, we’re committed to providing students with the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world. We also want to position our East London location as being at both the heart of a major global gateway and the local community. And, right now, we’re looking for a well-organised, approachable individual to play a key role at the heart of our HR Services team.

Your challenge will be to establish and build constructive relationships between the University and its’ recognised trade unions. We’ll also rely on you to formulate and maintain a suite of effective and legally compliant HR policies and provide employee relations advice to line managers and staff. Responsibility for minimising and resolving disputes and grievances comes with the territory too, as does providing effective and cost efficient recruitment, selection, onboarding, exit and related processing and transaction services and ensuring UKVI immigration compliance.

Ideally a CIPD member, you have in-depth experience of leading, communicating, advising and consulting at executive level, and with trade unions, on large scale organisational change issues and policy development. What’s more, you’re as comfortable developing wide-reaching strategies of key institutional significance. Managing and motivating a team comes naturally to you too, as does using your creativity and initiative to resolve problems and mitigate risk. And, when it comes to dealing effectively with difficult welfare situations or confidential matters in line with policies and procedures, again, you have what it takes to deliver.

So, if you have what we are looking for and are committed to providing a high-quality HR service where continuous improvement is the goal, get in touch.

At the University of East London, we aim to attract and retain the best possible staff and offer a working environment at the heart of a dynamic region with excellent transport links. You can look forward to a warm, sincere welcome, genuine camaraderie and mobility in an institution led with passion, visibility and purpose. Your impact, resilience and sense of collegiality will directly contribute to the University’s future and those of the students whose lives you will touch and change forever. We also offer a great range of benefits including pension, family friendly policies and an on-site nursery and gym at our Docklands Campus.

A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by UEL Professional Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of UEL. Employees of UEL Professional Services Ltd work alongside UEL colleagues in delivery of UEL’s mission, and UEL Professional Services Ltd will adopt UEL HR policies and procedures in full.
