ASSISTANT DEAN, STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICESDivision of Student Life (DSL)-Student Support Services (S3), to offer advice and support to enhance student wellbeing and provide assistance for students whose personal concerns may interfere with their ability to engage fully in their academics and Institute life. Will meet individually with students on personal and academic issues and provide broad outreach programming to facilitate connections across MIT’s student, staff, and faculty community; contribute to the development of protocols, programs, and procedures and provide advise to the community on issues that impact the student experience; serve as the connector to two to three residence halls; and contribute to the DSL goal of creating a culture of wellbeing by helping students develop the tools to live healthy and purposeful lives. Characteristic responsibilities include meeting with students to provide personal and academic support; assisting in crisis situations to quickly assess student circumstances and determine the next steps for referral/support; consulting with faculty and academic departments to help students experiencing academic difficulty; and working with colleagues from offices supporting students from diverse, underrepresented, international, and first-generation populations and collaboratively developing programming/resources to support the transition and success of these students.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED master’s degree, preferably in counseling, psychology, or education; at least four years’ counseling experience; flexibility; excellent interpersonal, writing, and listening skills; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the job.  Must be able to deal with intense and sensitive situations; take initiative; and plan, develop, and execute on projects and plans while working in a dynamic, high pressure environment.  

PREFERRED:  Ph.D./PsyD and experience in higher education. Job #18954-9 

Salary range:  $75-90,000 depending on experience

Must be able to deal with crises when they arise on evening and weekends.
