Research Specialist B

Job Description Summary

Research Specialist B assist the Principal Investigators, postdocs, fellows, and students with studies of ongoing projects. The focus of the lab is respiratory innate immunity and epithelial biology. To that end, the main responsibility of the Research Specialist B will be to perform molecular biology and immunology experiments. The majority of the work will involve experiments using primary human epithelial tissue and cultures, primary respiratory epithelial cell lines and some mouse work. The position requires prior experience of cell culture, molecular biology, including DNA, RNA, and protein work (western blots) as well as immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence and flow cytometry.

The Research Specialist B is also expected to assist in the maintenance of the respiratory epithelial cultures. The secondary responsibilities will be lab organization including ordering supplies, reagents and maintaining the chemical inventory. Rudimentary ability to evaluate experimental results and plan subsequent experiments is expected. Currently, there is minimal animal work/procedures with mice.

Qualifications:

Research Specialist B:

The minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience are required. In particular, experience working with non-human primates is a plus as well as experience in tissue culture, flow cytometry and immunostaining techniques.

Working Conditions
Office, Library, Computer Room; Requires extensive safety training.

Typically sitting at a desk or table, typically standing and walking, intermittently sitting, standing, and stooping. Occasional lifting 25lbs or less.

The job pay range encompasses the full range of employees from new hires to the salaries of current Penn employees with many years of experience and seniority and is not a precise indicator of salaries of new hires when looking at the top end.
