 As part of its strategic development, the Department of Informatics is seeking applications from candidates for the position of Lecturer in Computer Science (Autonomous Systems), starting in November 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.   

The successful applicant for this post will undertake research and teaching in the area of Computer Science and Autonomous Systems. They will be assigned to teach on the postgraduate or undergraduate degree programmes offered by the Department of Informatics and will be expected to supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate projects.  

Accordingly, the successful applicant will need knowledge and awareness of current research and practical challenges in Autonomous Systems.  The Department seeks to broaden and deepen its current strengths in these areas, so candidates engaged in research and teaching which complements that of the existing members of the Department will be considered favourably. Topics of interest in the area of Autonomous Systems include, but are not limited to, autonomy, planning, logic and decision making, machine learning, security, resilience, verification, human interactions with autonomous systems, including vision or natural language processing, responsibility, ethics and governance aspects related to autonomous systems.

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to join the resource group that best match their expertise, will be expected to contribute to the Informatics Trusted Autonomous Systems Hub,  contribute to the Centre for Doctoral Training in Safe and Trusted Artificial Intelligence, and engage with the national UKRI TAS Hub on Trustworthy Autonomous Systems, King’s is a member of. Research collaboration across research groups, with departmental hubs and with other Departments in the Faculty, including with the Robotics Group in Engineering, and across the College is strongly encouraged. 

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant area, an excellent publication record, and the ability to attract research funding.  It is essential that applicants have the enthusiasm and commitment required to contribute to the further development of the research standing of the Department of Informatics, and to make a full contribution to teaching and administrative activities.
