We invite applications to join our integrated teaching, research and innovation teams in the Networks and Cybersecurity Centre (NCC) as a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security. We embed cybersecurity principles and practices into our computer science and network technology courses, as well as offering courses that focus specifically on cyber security and digital forensics. The teaching objective is to equip students with a range of cybersecurity skills that will boost their employability at the end of the degree. The research-and-innovation objective is to enhance the reputation of the School both through excellent research publications and research supervision and through impactful projects that advance the practice of cyber security.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use appropriate learning, teaching, support and assessment methods.
  • Teaching as a member of the Networks and Cybersecurity centre in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures.
  • Ensure that module design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the University.
  • Supervise undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral research projects (as appropriate).
  • Engage in scholarship as required to support teaching activities and continually update knowledge. 
  • Conduct high-quality research leading to publication in reputable journals and conference proceeding
  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research.
  • Engage in collaborative partnerships and contribute to the University’s work in influencing leading edge practice.
  • Support students in their learning experience
  • Develop quality-assured course content appropriate to the qualification level  
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students on their work

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Hold a PhD in Cybersecurity or a related subject such as computer science is required.
  • Applicants will have demonstrated excellent teaching in higher education or have presented regularly to technical audiences in an industry setting.
  • Expertise in a cybersecurity specialism, such as network forensics, cyber security; 
  • Exposure to network security or cyber security tools including Splunk, Bro (Zeek), ELK and snort;
  • Python programming, Rest API, Netconf, Restcont, Ansible;
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills;
  • Have a strong record of research and research publications;
  • Commitment to undertake teaching and research of the highest quality.

Desirable

  • Experience as a cybersecurity practitioner, holding professional certification;
  • Applicants will have demonstrated excellent teaching in higher education or have, presented regularly to technical audiences in an industry setting; 
  • Python programming, Rest API, Netconf, Restcont, Ansible;
  • CCNA, CCNP or Juniper industrial certifications;
  • Relevant teaching experience, with preferred experience in delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
  • Eligible for Fellow status under the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Standards Framework;
  • Experience of designing, developing or implementing systems in an industry context.
