POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI), to join an academic team that is developing new processes for adventitious agent detection in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, with particular reference to third-generation sequencing. These procedures will provide an unbiased method of detecting potential contaminants that are faster than the currently available gold-standard methodologies. Will design and execute experiments to develop and optimize spiking studies and detection protocols; analyze and characterize viral culture samples using the Oxford Nanopore sequencer and metabolomic technologies; be responsible for the preparation and purification of virus for use in spiking studies; and perform other duties as assigned. Regular progress reports will be required. This position involves close collaboration with academic partners in the U.S. and Singapore as part of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology’s program on Critical Analytics for Manufacturing Personalized-Medicine (SMART CAMP).
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in biochemical or chemical engineering, biological sciences, virology, or related field; experience with the growth of mammalian or insect cells and virus in both suspension and adherent culture; viral infection and purification experience; experience with genomic analysis using high-throughput sequencing technology; ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, troubleshoot technical issues, and develop and execute detailed technical protocols; strong documentation and written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
