About the position

Bond University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine has a multi-disciplinary base across a range of programs including Medicine, Biomedical and Health Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetic Practice, Exercise and Sports Science, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. The University and the Faculty recognise the importance of all these students developing an understanding of First Nations health including a depth of understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for a senior appointment which is responsible for the strategic development, leadership, internal and external engagement, implementation, and representation of the Faculty’s First Nations Health program.

The position will provide personal leadership of the implementation of the First Nations Health curriculum and assessment across the Faculty. The portfolio of responsibilities includes development of placement partnerships, student scholarships, entry pathways and research opportunities and wider university representations and initiatives. This appointment will also have an important and active role in the teaching of medical and allied health students.

There is a further opportunity to serve in a leadership role at the University-level, to work alongside the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) in leading the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan.

About the person:

To be considered for this position, you will be a qualified health professional and possess a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline. You will have the ability and strategic vision to lead the development and implementation of a faculty wide program in First Nations Health.

A substantial research portfolio and significant teaching experience in medicine and/or allied health is required. It is essential that candidates have the ability to successfully engage and collaborate with First Nations Communities, First Nations organisations and with relevant healthcare professionals to develop clinical placements.

Consistent with the strong partnership, which exists between Bond University and local health Services, an optional opportunity may exist for the successful candidate to hold a clinical appointment with local Health Services.

To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

Remuneration for the appointment will commence at $186 454 plus 17.5% superannuation per annum. Salary sacrificing options may be available.
