About us

The Department of Physics has an international reputation for excellence in research, as recognised by the hosting of three ARC Centre Nodes for Gravitational Wave Discovery, Quantum Engineered Systems, and Dark Matter Particle Physics. It also leads in research areas including quantum and frequency metrology, quantum gravity and field, quantum information and computation, spintronics and magnetisation dynamics, terahertz and optical technology, as well as bio and medical physics.

About the opportunity

You will work in the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at UWA. Your research will be to advance knowledge and expertise in developing fundamental theories and conceptual framework in physics.

Within your area of research, you will formulate a coherent and focused research plan, conduct high quality research and write high-quality impact manuscripts. You will also present your work at conference, communicate with collaborators and supervise Honours and PhD students.

You will prepare and submit (or will have recently submitted) an external competitive Postdoctoral Fellowship application with your nominated UWA mentor. You will conduct research on the agreed project in conjunction with your mentor until the end of this bridging fellowship, or when the funds from a successful fellowship are received, whichever comes first.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A PhD (or soon to be completed PhD)
  • Proven ability in independently formulating a competitive fellowship application
  • Proven ability in independently formulating and pursuing research questions and conducting high-quality research
  • Proven experience in independently writing high-quality and high-impact manuscripts and presenting results in oral presentations
  • The ability to work both independently and co-operatively with collaborators and as part of a team
  • The ability to supervise and train Honours and PhD students
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
