Project Officer

Job Details

We are seeking applications for one Project Officer to join us at the Centre for Research and Development in Learning (CRADLE), Nanyang Technological University. The successful candidate will be an integral member of an inter-disciplinary research team striving to decipher the enigma of the human brain. We seek to understand how cognitive neuroscience can be applied to education to optimize learning.

The current project will be investigating bilingual and biliteracy development in early childhood using multi-modal approaches including behavioral assessment, intervention, and brain imaging with MRI. Highly motivated individuals with interests in bilingualism and educational neuroscience are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will work closely with researchers at CRADLE, the Clinical Brain Lab headed by Professor Annabel Shen-Hsing Chen, National Institute of Education (NIE), and other international collaborators from institutes such as Johns Hopkins University. The successful candidate will have access to the advanced Siemens 3T MAGNETOM Prisma MRI scanner and other state-of-the-art facilities in NTU including MEG, fNIRS, EEG, and tDCS.

The responsibilities of the position include:

  • Conduct participant recruitment
  • Collect behavioural and neuroimaging data
  • Manage research data and maintain research records
  • Manage project-related administrative work
  • Assist with task preparation, data coding and analysis
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings: conduct literature reviews, assist with preparing academic publications (e.g., conference, paper, book) and research reports
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Principal Investigator

Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, linguistics, educational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, education, biological sciences, or related disciplines
  • Good proficiency in English and Chinese
  • Good theoretical knowledge of research designs in general
  • Experience with IRB preparation and participant liaison skills
  • Experience with conducting behavioural experiments in neuropsychology or cognitive psychology
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and able to work within given deadlines
  • Self-directed learner who effectively picks up relevant skills as needed

Preferred requirements:

  • Good statistical knowledge and data analytic skills
  • Good knowledge of Singaporean K-12 education systems
  • Experience with working with children
  • Preference for working collaboratively in teams
  • Experience with non-invasive neuroimaging techniques (e.g., MRI, fNIRS, EEG, MEG)
  • Prior experience with academic publication processes

Terms and Conditions:

• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
