Postdoctoral Fellow at the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard (LISH)
School    Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Department/Area    LISH/IQSS

Position Description

The Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard University (LISH) is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship to focus on our Science of Science research. The position is open to any scholar from the fields of economics, statistics, management, psychology, or sociology. Candidates with a background in empirical work with observational data establishing casual relationships would be well-suited, especially those with experience and interest in the design and use of survey data.

Specifically, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be encouraged to develop research projects of their own, and the position will also involve work on an ongoing project developing a longitudinal panel survey of academic scientists with a focus on the determinants of scientific productivity. This Postdoctoral Fellow will work on key components of this new survey including: the development of the survey instrument and design; development of data infrastructure; recruiting and tracking participants; and data analyses.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the supervision of LISH Directors and affiliated faculty member Kyle Myers, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with LISH staff, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral students.

Candidates should have skills and/or interests in one (or more) of the following areas:

  • Survey statistics and methodology
  • Causal inference and research design
  • Empirical microeconomic research
  • Applied economic theory

LISH is looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds and/or new perspectives. There are no teaching requirements for this position.

LISH is a Harvard-wide research program led by faculty co-directors Karim Lakhani and Marco Iansiti of Harvard Business School; Eva Guinan, Harvard Medical School; and David Parkes, Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. We focus on developing a science of innovation and work with several partners (NASA, Harvard Medical School, Broad Institute, Topcoder and various corporations) to investigate real-world innovation problems.

This is a one-year term appointment through Harvard University with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding. This position is funded by an award administered by the Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) at Harvard.
