The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The position is based at the Department of Experimental Medical Science in Lund.

Work duties
The successful applicant is expected to be an active member of StemTherapy, a strategic research area based at the Lund Stem Cell Center.

Work duties primarily consist of running and developing GMP-classified facilities for the culture and production of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) within StemTherapy, in collaboration with other research groups at LU. The applicant’s work should cover developmental biology with a focus on neurodevelopment, and is expected to develop, lead and organize internationally competitive research in this area. This should include cross-disciplinary projects and the promotion of a close contact between academia and industry.

Teaching at the Faculty’s Bachelor, Masters and PHD programs is also included in the duties and requires good knowledge of significance for the subject.

The appointed candidate will also be expected to carry out other duties normally associated with aposition as professor at Lund University. These are administrative duties, services associated with internal and external elected offices with relevance for the university, as well as representing the scientific field of the position nationally and internationally. The candidate should be able to interact with society and media in order to spread information about scientific achievments, especially with regard to the use of stem cells. Additional duties may be added in the future.

Qualifications 
Pursuant to Chapter 4 Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise shall be qualified for employment as a professor of developmental biology with a specialization in neuroscience.

To qualify for the position, applicants must have undergone at least five weeks’ training in teaching and learning in higher education, or acquired equivalent knowledge, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

For teaching staff at Lund University, a general qualification requirement is being suited to and having the general ability required to complete the duties of the post well.

Assessment criteria
The applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and teaching expertise of value to the subject area. The assessment will particularly take into account the applicant’s research expertise and future  potential to develop a strong research program at Lund University. 

The applicant is expected to have demonstrated research expertise in the appropriate area at a leading international level. The research will be focused on the use of pluripotent stem cells for modelling of neurodevelopmental disorders. The applicant is expected to be an active member of StemTherapy and within this network lead the development of core facilities for the production and culture of iPSCs. The applicant should demonstrate documented experience of GMP-classified production of pluripotent stem cells and have a broad experience of cross-disciplinary projects and research environments.

The successful applicant is principal investigator for research that is awarded with funding  in national and/or international competition, has well documented competence for PhD supervision and have experience of utilizing and implementing research results and focusing on collaboration in the practice as a researcher. Special merit will be given to documented experience in running core-facilities, including faculty wide management of such organizations.

The applicant must have demonstrated teaching expertise and ability to supervise doctoral students at all levels of higher education.The applicant must have demonstrated the ability to lead and develop activities (leadership skills), interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with wider society and to inform about research and development.
