The Department of English Literature and Creative Writing at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint two Lecturers in Creative Writing.  These are half-time (0.5) indefinite appointments, to start 1 October 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.  The Department is ranked first in the UK for Creative Writing (Complete University Guide 2020) and we wish to add to our profile by attracting writers with expertise in prose writing.  We are particularly interested in applicants who specialise in the novel and/or creative non-fiction but would also value applications that offer one or more of the following: the graphic novel; short fiction; life writing; flash fiction; creative-critical; digital narrative.   Candidates should have a strong profile in teaching and research as well as concrete plans for future projects and publications.

The successful candidates will have experience of undergraduate teaching (preferably including the design and delivery of their own modules) and will be expected to be able to teach postgraduate modules and supervise doctoral students.  They are likely to be expected to teach on undergraduate core Creative Writing workshops as well as on genre-specific modules at undergraduate and/or MA level, and to show the ability to take an effective leadership role in Creative Writing programmes.

The successful applicants will be expected to have completed their PhD or to have publications that could be submitted for a PhD by Publication. They will also show evidence of a strong set of publication plans in preparation for the next REF, and of public engagement activities in support of their research.

Informal enquiries are welcomed and should be made to Professor Sharon Ruston, Head of Department: s.ruston@lancaster.ac.uk
