We are seeking a research associate to help develop and validate a continuum model of positron emitting particle tracking (PEPT) measurements.

In PEPT a finite amount of radiolabelled blood cells are injected into the blood stream. As these particles move around the body the position of the blood cells can be traced with the radioactive decay. If the amount of blood cells is very small, this can be done with a very precise spatial and temporal resolution contrary to standard blood flow imaging techniques. One of the main challenges is to identify the amount of radiation and particles needed.

You will be working in a leading research environment as part of the ESPRC project "Probing Multiscale Complex Multiphase Flows with Positrons for Engineering and Biomedical Applications". Your role involves close collaboration with biophysical modellers, software developers, engineers and clinicians.

Your role will involve 1) the setup and validation of a motion driven CFD model for PEPT measurements 2) calibration and estimation of design variables for the PEPT scanners and 3) contribution to development of the PEPT methodology. These tasks will be achieved by using and enhancing existing software at KCL developed in C++ and Python.
