BENEFITS REPRESENTATIVE, Human Resources-Benefits, to deliver exceptional service and counseling to MIT faculty, staff, retirees, beneficiaries, and vested terminated employee retirees, while providing administrative support for plan administration. Responsibilities include counseling employees, retirees, and beneficiaries (in-person, by telephone, and via email) on various HR and benefit inquiries related to plan eligibility, plan provisions and options, and enrollment and change processes; solving problems and advocating for faculty, staff, and retirees; logging case information, using Request Tracker software to respond to inquiries, documenting case status, and following up as needed; scanning documents into Optix; participating on team and HR projects; and processing benefit plan enrollments, changes, and cancellations. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ HR/benefits and customer service experience; working knowledge of ERISA requirements and ERISA-based plans; willingness to stay current on relevant HR and benefit industry trends/topics; ability to use relevant internal and external resources to research and resolve problems in a proactive and timely manner; discretion and good judgment with confidential information; excellent problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills; attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Office and web applications and ability to learn HR information systems, especially SAP; initiative; flexibility and willingness to be accountable.  Must be able to prioritize competing demands and follow through on tasks despite constant interruptions; work with minimal supervision; consult with and resolve customer and stakeholder inquiries in-person, by telephone, and via email; recognize the needs of unit and own responsibility; and provide support to and collaborate with colleagues within a team environment.
