The University of British Columbia

Location: Vancouver, BC

The University of British Columbia (UBC), one of the world’s most dynamic universities, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Forestry.

UBC’s vision is to create an exceptional learning environment that fosters global citizenship, advances a civil and sustainable society, and supports outstanding research to serve the people of British Columbia, Canada, and the world. Ranked among the top 40 universities globally, with campuses in Vancouver and the Okanagan, UBC has close to 65,000 students and offers both intellectual riches and an unrivalled quality of life.

UBC’s Faculty of Forestry is recognized globally as one of the leading forestry schools in the world. Started in 1920, the Faculty is now home to 65 full-time faculty members, 1,100 undergraduate students, and 300 graduate students from 40 countries.

Today, the Faculty embodies a comprehensive offering of undergraduate and graduate programs that cover a breadth of disciplines and programs including wood products science, natural resources, conservation, forest sciences, Indigenous initiatives, urban forestry, and forest resources management. The Faculty’s programs model the broad spectrum of topics that relate to forests’ interplay between the environment and all those who live on the planet.

The new Dean will bring a successful track record in significant administrative roles in research intensive universities.  The Dean will have a strong track record in research and teaching, which they will bring to bear in their role in promoting excellence in both.  A strategic leader with the capacity and vision to build on the momentum that the Faculty has achieved in recent years, the new Dean will be collaborative and have exceptional interpersonal skills.  The new Dean’s background and credentials will merit an appointment as full professor in the Faculty of Forestry at UBC.

This is an opportunity to lead a world-class Faculty, with tremendous forward momentum, situated in a city that consistently ranks as one of the most liveable cities in the world.
