About the position

Funded by the Norwegian Research council, the position is part of a collaborative project on personalized rehabilitation of stroke patients evaluated with multimodal quantitative tools (PROTEQT). The selected candidate can start as early as October 1st, 2020.

This position is primarily for the development of methods to analyze high-dimensional neural data in particular, to compare across subjects and describe changes as the underlying network develops (e.g. during recovery from a stroke). The main datasets are multimodal MRI, to be analyzed in collaboration with another postdoc and PhD student.

The selected candidate will be part of a research group focused on neural data science at the department of Mathematics, currently comprising 1 postdoc, 5 PhD students, 2 master students and associate professor Benjamin Dunn with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, neuroscience and physics. We are also part of a much larger local community at NTNU that includes strong basic, computational and translational neuroscience as well as medicine, statistics, mathematics and related research fields.

The selected candidate will report to Benjamin Dunn with respect to the daily work, and to the Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences in employee matters

Duties of the position

Required selection criteria

A postdoctoral research fellowship is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. You must have completed a doctoral degree in mathematics, statistics or otherwise have shown similar qualification in the respective field. Foreign doctoral degrees must be recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.

If, for any reason, you have taken a career break or have had an atypical career and wish to disclose this in your application, the selection committee will take this into account, recognizing that the quantity of your research may be reduced as a result

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

  • A brief text (max one page) on an approach to large population neural data analysis that you think is amazing.
  • Documented experience with analysis of neural data
  • High-level written and oral English language skills

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education and the above personal characteristics, as well as the readiness to start the project.

We offer

Salary and conditions

The employment period is 3 or 4 years (if position is to include teaching responsibilities in statistics or mathematics).Postdoctoral candidates are placed in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK

542 400 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
