Research Fellow - Faculty of Engineering and Environment
There is an immediate opening for a Research Fellow in the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering, faculty of engineering and environment at Northumbria University. You will work with Dr Terence Liu and other colleagues in a national leading research lab, in multidisciplinary research fields (Renewable Energy, Smart Materials etc.) and supported by a mix of postdoctoral research fellows and research students. The lab has achieved a strong research profile with publications in world leading journals, and attracting funds from Research Council and industrial collaborative projects.
This Research Associate position is part of project funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The project aim is to research and develop novel light-weight electrode material for fuel cells and batteries to increase their specific power. The successful applicant will work on graphene aerogel integrated electrochemical energy system. The research will involve i) Synthesis and evaluation of graphene/CNT/high porous carbon aerogel electrode materials, ii) fuel cell design, fabrication and testing, iii) Li/Na battery assembly and electrochemical characterisations, and iv) developing theoretical understanding on the certain scientific/technological topic(s). This position would suit a highly motivated researcher, interested in crossing discipline boundaries between materials sciences, engineering and physics.
The applicant should have significant research experience and a track record of high impact journal publication, and related research experiences from the least two fields of the following: materials, chemistry, electrochemical engineering, physical chemistry. The successful applicant should possess a PhD degree in engineering, materials, electrochemical engineering or a related discipline before starting the post, or/and have relevant postdoctoral experience (desired).
