Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the ATLAS group in the Department of Physics (School of Engineering, Physical and Mathematical Sciences).

 This is a post in the ATLAS group to work on the development of the Hardware Track Trigger (HTT) project for the Phase II upgrade of the ATLAS detector. Some involvement in data exploitation of the ATLAS detector will also be possible. The group has a long experience of involvement in ATLAS Trigger/DAQ activities. It currently leads several areas of detector operation and upgrades. These include trigger software, data-acquisition software and hardware, HTT software, hardware and coordination. The group is involved in physics analyses on ATLAS in the areas of top quark physics, Higgs physics and searches for exotic signals. Members of the ATLAS team are also world experts in statistical methods applied to particle physics and involved in diverse novel analysis techniques.

This post will involve working within a team involved in the development of the HTT. The aim of this work is to contribute to the construction and commissioning of the HTT system for the ATLAS upgrade. The holder of this post will be expected to help produce independent and original research within the RHUL Centre for Particle Physics, to submit publications to refereed journals, and to work together with, and help supervise, PhD and MSci students.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Experimental Particle Physics or a closely related area, as well as prior experience relevant to one or more of the following: (i) particle physics software; (ii) particle physics data analysis; (iii) firmware programming.

The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.

This is a full-time post, available from 1 September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed term period of 24 months at Royal Holloway, University of London, with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months.
