The Department of Chemistry (http://www.helsinki.fi/kemia/english/) at the Faculty of Science carries out research on chemistry and its applications at an international level and provides academic teaching based on high quality research. The department forms accountability unit operating on an annual budget of 19 million euros and reports 200 person-years per annum. There are 15 professors at the Department.
Materials Chemistry is an interdisciplinary research program of the Department of Chemistry compiling research on organic, inorganic, polymer and structural chemistry. The research in the department of chemistry covers all aspects from basic chemistry research (synthesis, understanding and characterization) to material applications (utilization in electronics, functional materials and everyday consumables).
The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a
position under the supervision of Dr. Marianna Kemell. The successful applicant will join the Helsinki ALD group at the Department of Chemistry and enroll in the Doctoral Programme in Materials Research and Nanosciences (MATRENA) at the Doctoral School of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki. The position is fixed-term for 4 years including a trial period of 6 months, and the work is scheduled to commence in September 1st, 2020. Successful applicant is expected to work full time on the PhD thesis and to complete PhD thesis and the required studies in four years.
The doctoral thesis work will be part of an Academy of Finland funded research project ”Atomic layer deposition as key enabler for scalable and stable perovskite solar cells, 2020-2024”. The work will involve atomic layer deposition of thin films for halide perovskite solar cells and preparation of nanostructured solar cells, as well as characterization of the films and structures by various methods. You are expected to prepare manuscripts for publication in international scientific journals, present your findings in scientific meetings and workshops, as well as prepare funding applications for travel and research grants.
- MSc. degree or equivalent in chemistry, materials research or physics
- Fluency in English
- High motivation for academic research, initiative and capability of working both independently and as a member of a team
The appointee must either already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki by the start of the appointment, or apply for the right and obtain it within the probationary period of 6 months applied in the appointment. Salary and benefits
The salary will be based on level 2 of the demands level table for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary will be ca. 2300-2500 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
