Overview

The School of Architecture seeks a Technical Support Specialist. The support specialist assists in the day-to-day supervision of technology needs of the school’s students, faculty and staff. This includes support with audio/visual components, computer lab, wide-format plotters, classrooms, fabrication lab, studio spaces, equipment checkout, exhibitions and events.  The support specialist works in a busy environment, providing support for a variety of technology systems, as well as hands-on technical support. This position will report to the IT Manager. 

Responsibilities

Technical Support: 50%

  • Manage computer lab imaging that includes a mix of Windows OS and MacOS desktops. Collaborate with OIT for central management of group policy editing, scripting, and profile management. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Powershell, MacOS, Apple Scripting, Jamf Pro, and group policy management required.
  • Supervise PaperCut Print Management System on Windows 2012 R2 Server including PaperCut patches, fund distribution, refunds, new accounts, and Active Directory groups. Working knowledge of Active Directory required.
  • Create, test and deploy apple scripts and shell scripting for print packaging.
  • Maintain and update the School of Architecture IT Computing Helpdesk WordPress site and student group sites including adding/updating content, customizing pages, installing plug-ins, etc. Experience with WordPress, HTML, CSS, Drupal, UI design and UX guidelines required.
  • Support various printers, scanners including Contex wide-format scanner, and 5 wide-format plotters (HP Designjet and OCE ColorWave) in the SoA with maintenance, color adjustments, paper and toner loading, cleaning printheads, clearing paper-jams, adjusting web-portal settings, securing plotters with IP SEC, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Applications specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Premiere Pro. Experience in design creation with art boards, image adjustment, layer creation, color space, flattening files, exporting various movie files etc.
  • Working knowledge of Zoom Meetings/Webinars and Microsoft Teams.
  • Create and provide student workshops that cover use of Adobe products, Photo Room and Wide-Format Scanner usage.
  • Assist with equipment checkout using Cheqroom for reservations and inventory maintenance.
  • Keep SoA assets current using ServiceNow Service Management System.

Desktop Support: 30%

  • Provide support to student population (90+) with computer inquiries. Working knowledge of Windows OS, Mac OS, iOS, Android, Surface, Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Rhino 3D, Grasshopper and VRay.
  • Support faculty/staff with computing questions including software/hardware questions, updates and fixes, networking, calendaring applications including Google Calendar, TeamUP Calendar, and EMS.
  • Assist with updating all Princeton University owned computers with OS and software updates as determined by OIT.
  • Support technology in the offsite Architecture Lab/Embodied Computation Lab.
  • Support technology in the Fabrication Lab with software updates and patches.
  • Support maintenance of the mobile media carts: 60in LCD’s with attached mac-minis and Apple TVs.
  • Inventory and surplus items no longer needed at the School.

Event Support: 20%

  • Provide technical support for gallery installations including audio and visual support with monitors, projectors, speakers, streaming media, gallery lighting, etc. This includes the yearly Thesis Exhibition in New York City.
  • Assist students with studio review projects that involve AV components by staging technical and AV equipment.
  • Provide additional technical event support for lectures, symposia, conferences, thesis, reviews, etc to visiting guests, current faculty and students. Will require evening and some weekend hours.
  • Attendance for All-Staff events is mandatory and will require evening hours. There are several throughout the year.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in art, graphics design, architecture, computer science or equivalent discipline
  • Minimum of 2-5 years professional experience working to support needs related to computing, printing and A/V support
  • Strong experience in a variety of MS Windows and Apple hardware/software administration, maintenance and support of the following operating systems: MS Windows 10, MacOS
  • Superior knowledge of Adobe CC software
  • Knowledge of audio and visual technologies and their application in a variety of settings
  • Knowledge of HP and Canon plotter technology
  • Ability to work in a fast-passed, ever-changing environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and balance multiple requests
  • Must be physically able to move and lift computers, projectors, some heavier equipment, climb ladders for installations, etc
  • Great communication skills and the ability to take initiative on projects
  • Must be customer-service oriented
  • Participate in University wide meetings for SCAD members and School of Architecture staff meetings
  • Follow University rules and regulations

Preferred:

  • Experience at a higher-education institution a plus
  • Experience at a school or college of architecture a plus
