We are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Communications Officer (Staff and Stakeholders) to cover a period of maternity leave (up to 12 months) who can work with us to deliver effective internal communications to all staff, as well as to external stakeholders to connect them to City’s developing civic engagement agenda.

Part of the Communications and Events Team in the Marketing & External Relations Department, the department works across the University to develop, among other things, marketing materials, events, publications, media relations and a web presence to support its activities. The Senior Communications Officer will join a team of motivated communications professionals.

Responsibilities

Using the full range of communications channels, the Senior Communications Officer will deliver key communications to staff to enable them to carry out their roles and stay connected to the University.

They will be responsible for advising colleagues across all levels and areas of the University, including the Executive Team, on staff communications and messaging, often producing copy under very tight deadlines using first-class written communication skills.

Other duties will involve working closely with the Vice-President (Strategy and Planning; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) on the development of City’s Civic Engagement Strategy and subsequent delivery, ensuring promotion and engagement with internal and external stakeholders along with being responsible for the line management of the Communications Officer (Staff and Stakeholders).

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of working in internal communications, including the use of a wide range of communications channels such as intranet and e-newsletters, as well as stakeholder engagement, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills are essential as the job involves building relationships with people across all levels of the University and in the community, including local neighbours and members of the local council.

Experience developing and delivering communications and community engagement strategies, working with community organisations and knowledge of the higher education sector is desirable.
