Doctoral Researcher - Centre of Expertise in R&D Monitoring
DOCTORAL RESEARCHER CENTER OF EXPERTISE IN R&D MONITORING
The Centre for R&D Monitoring (ECOOM) is charged with developing a consistent system of R&D and Innovation indicators for the Flemish government. This indicator system is designed to assist the Flemish government in mapping and monitoring the RD&I efforts in Flanders.
We are looking for a full time (pre-) doctoral researcher (m/f) starting his/her first year contract in 2020 for an envisaged time period of four years in which a PhD dissertation is expected to become completed.
Your research will be part of a project, financed by the Flemish government, concerning“Interdisciplinarity and impact of research & development” and will focus on interdisciplinarity in science, technology and especially their interplay.
Research activities will include analyzing and validating existing indicators, developing new ones as well as assessing their relevance for diffusion dynamics and economic impact.
You will enter the doctoral program of the Faculty of Business and Economics (MSI) and prepare a doctoral dissertation at the Center of Expertise for R&D Monitoring – KU Leuven.
With your research, you will work at the crossroad of the bibliometric and technometric research groups, combining state-of-the-art indicators and techniques that are being developed in both groups.

Although not restricted to these, you preferably have a background in Business Economics, Business Engineering,Economics, Mathematics/Information Science.
You show particular interest in science-technology-relations and you have affinity with quantitative approaches towards science and technology studies, including relevant developments in the field of big data/machine learning.
You should be able to show excellent (‘honors’-level) results in prior studies and be fluent in both spoken and written English.
Knowledge of Dutch would be an advantage. Most importantly, you should share our unbridled enthusiasm for scientific research and have affinity with policy implications.
