During the Spring quarter, 2021, the Department of Visual Arts and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago seek a part-time Lecturer to teach one section of ARTV 10100 (“Visual Language: On Images”).  This class will be held at the University’s Marine Biology Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA and will likely meet on Thursdays OR Fridays, the entire day, from April 1 through May 13, 2021.  Salary is $9,000.  Room and board will be covered. Travel will be reimbursed. The position is not benefits-eligible.

An MFA or equivalent is required. Applicants must have experience teaching art at the college or post-secondary level with the interest and ability to communicate both within one's specific disciplinary area as well as across a range of media practice.

Responsibilities will include preparing workshop-style classes, holding regularly scheduled office hours, and the preparation and grading of assignments and testing materials. Applicants are expected to create a course that meshes with the unique physical environment of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Cape Cod, the proximity to the coast, and the emphasis of the program on biology.  Ability to collaborate with resident scientists in course design is essential. Familiarity with the MBL and experience working with scientists on integrated course design is strongly preferred.
