The Faculty of Languages and Literatures invites applications for a

Professorship (W2) of English Media Didactics and Applied Linguistics

commencing on October 1, 2020.

The applicant will be responsible for the two main areas of the subject in both teaching and research as well as being expected to contribute actively to the design of the teacher training programme. This professorship is a research and teaching position addressing questions related to language acquisition and the teaching and learning of the English language with digital media. As this position is situated in the applied sciences, the professorship is particularly concerned with English language teaching and teacher education across all school forms and educational contexts. A characteristic feature of the professorship is the two-faceted nature of its scope. On the one hand, it is a discipline which sets out to research questions related to language teaching, linguistics and media competence and on the other it is concerned with the vocational training and professional academic development of English language teachers. This professorship additionally involves leadership tasks associated with the Sprachenzentrum/Language Center.

LMU Munich seeks to appoint a highly qualified academic to this professorship. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching to date, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career. In addition, the successful candidate should have a degree in secondary school teaching for English and have at least three years’ experience in practical teaching in German secondary schools or comparable institutions.
