Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) in Applied Ecology in the context of agricultural and other land use systems. This is a full-time, 5-year academic post in the UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science (https://www.ucd.ie/agfood/), within its Environment and Sustainable Resource Management Section. The appointee will join a team of 17 full-time academics within the Section who offer a diverse portfolio of programmes, including three BAgrSc programmes in Agri-environmental Sciences, Forestry, and Horticulture, and two taught Master's programmes in Wildlife Conservation & Management, and Environmental Resource Management.

The appointee will spend one trimester (up to 16 weeks) per academic year teaching, delivering modules, assessing students and engaging with local staff at South China Agricultural University (SCAU) in Guangzhou, China, as a member of a team delivering several degree programmes in UCD's Guangzhou Dublin International College of Life Science and Technology (GDIC). The appointee may also do some teaching in their area in UCD's Belfield campus. Undergraduate teaching will be in the areas of animal biodiversity, ecosystem ecology, global change biology and wildlife management. The appointee will also develop their own research programme that will be largely based in Ireland but may include activities overseas (including China).

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who has demonstrated aptitude, commitment and passion for teaching, with research expertise in a relevant area. Candidates must have a PhD in an appropriate discipline, a demonstrated capacity to carry out research, excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and teaching experience. The candidate should complement and engage actively with current academic staff in the Section, School and wider UCD community, and make a significant contribution to teaching, research and university life.

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guideline
