TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE/LAB MANAGER, Biological Engineering, to manage the day-to-day operations of two research laboratories consisting of twelve graduate students and thirteen postdoctoral researchers. Duties will include inventory management, ordering consumables, and overseeing lab ordering systems to ensure spending is compliant with budget guidelines/constraints; managing lab hazardous waste streams and interactions with Environmental Health and Safety Office, including preparing for lab inspections and updating and maintaining the biological registration and lab safety plan; providing personal safety training for lab members; and onboarding, training, and mentoring new staff.  Will also be responsible for general instrumentation/equipment functionality, assessing equipment needs, scheduling maintenance/repairs, and maintaining policies/procedures for equipment maintenance; overseeing basic operation of the laboratory cell bank, including protocols for verification of cell identity; acting as a point of contact for cross-functional groups, sites, and outside collaborations and vendors and/or transfer of materials and information; contributing to continuous improvement initiatives/procedures to increase the operational efficiency of the laboratory, including rearranging equipment and bench assignments and ensuring protocols are updated and shared; managing liquid nitrogen storage tanks; and updating email lists and assisting with other tasks as needed.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in chemistry, biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related technical discipline; at least four years’ relevant experience in a research/development laboratory, including three as a lab manager or biology lab research technician; excellent interpersonal, leadership, managerial, organization, record-keeping, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Drive documents; and attention to detail.  Experience with cell culture, biomolecular analysis, ELISAs, and RNA prep preferred.  Job #18746
