Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.:500284), to commence as soon as possible by January 1, 2021, on a three-year fixed-term basis.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programs. The University of Hong Kong has a highly ranked engineering school and an active Mechanical Engineering Program. The Department employs about 30 full-time faculty members and has well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support. Applicants should possess a relevant Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field. Previous teaching experience will be a plus. Prior academic or industrial R&D track records in materials chemistry, microfluidics and soft matter will be an advantage. They should also have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and an excellent command of English.

The appointee is expected to work within an existing research group and participate in a large-scale collaborative multidisciplinary research related to, but not limited to droplet microfluidics, biomaterial engineering and bioprinting. The appointee is expected to develop a sub-group with synergy and coherence with the larger group. The appointee will also teach or contribute to the teaching of undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering. Strongly motivated candidates willing to engage in innovative teaching schemes such as flipped classroom and e-Learning will be preferred. The candidate is also expected to apply for research funding, supervise research postgraduate students and capstone projects with engineering contents for final year undergraduates and taught master degree students. Administrative duties which promote the educational mission of the University may also be required.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
