At TU Dresden, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Geosciences, the Institute of Geography, invites applications for the

Chair (W2) of Urban Geography

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

You will develop and represent the subject area in research and teaching. Your research areas focus on social geography, urban areas and urban-rural relationships. Scientific issues comprise in particular diverging interests and conflicts of use in urban spaces, covering the urban and rural settings, their specifics and their interrelations. Social und technological effects, conflicts und stakeholder-oriented strategies (i.e. in the context of social and technological infrastructure, smart cities and selective growth and shrinking conditions) are of particular interest. We expect your willingness to participate in interdisciplinary research collaborations, in particular with the chairs of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the International Institute (IHI) Zittau, the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER), the Center for Advanced Water Research (CAWR), the Dresden-based UNU Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources of the United Nations University (UNU-FLORES) and other non-university research institutions, administrative bodies and planning practices.

We expect you to perform teaching tasks in the geography teacher training programme and in the geography bachelor and master programmes, comprehensively covering urban geography, including didactics courses. The capability to teach in German is an obligatory requirement for the teacher training. Additionally, we wish for your active participation in academic selfadministration and in teaching courses in related degree programmes as well as for your willingness and capability to teach in English. In academic selfadministration, we particularly ask for your sound support with the organisation and implementation of the teacher training in geography.

We are looking for a scientist with a proven international track record with interdisciplinary and global networks as well as experience in securing research grants from third parties. We place particular emphasis on an outstanding record of scientific publications and activities on a national and an international level. Besides, we assume a special aptitude for scientific work and outstanding didactic skills. We are looking forward to receiving applications that fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
