UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Chemistry, Two temporary posts ending 31 December 2020

Applicants are sought for two postdoctoral research positions in the Science Foundation Ireland-funded LiCoRICE project (Lithium Cobalt Recycling Innovations for the Circular Economy. This is an interdisciplinary project between Dr Tony Keene (School of Chemistry) and Dr Steven Ferguson (School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering), covering materials chemistry and process scaling for the recovery and reuse of mineral resources from post-consumer waste.

This roles will focus on the extraction of critical raw minerals from post-consumer battery waste and the synthesis and characterisation of novel materials for the synthesis of battery cathodes. A wide range of inorganic synthetic and analytical techniques will be used and characterisation will involve powder X-ray diffraction and different forms of elemental analysis. As well as the discovery and optimisation phase of the work, you will have input into the design of the pilot plant in collaboration with chemical engineers.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

Salary Scale: €37,874 - €40,221 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience
