Fixed term, full time position available from 20 July 2020 for 4 years, with potential for extension subject to funding availability and performance

Work with our defence industry partners to identify workforce development needs, and lead the development and delivery of defence-related short courses and micro-credential Continuing Professional Education opportunities in defence and naval engineering via a combination of existing and new teaching materials

This position will initially focus on repackaging existing teaching materials for online delivery to a market seeking rapid upskilling and ability to transition to the defence industry sector and employment opportunities in the development and construction of submarines, frigates and other defence projects based in South Australia. This teaching and research academic role involves contributing to the teaching of existing School of Mechanical Engineering courses, foundation engineering courses, and defence-related topics including Naval Engineering.

Research activity to be aligned with School of Mechanical Engineering research strengths, ECMS research themes, and University Industry Engagement Priorities, with a strong emphasis on engagement with industry.

Flexible work arrangements can be negotiated with the right candidates.

To be successful you will need:

Lecturer (Level B)

• An undergraduate engineering degree in aerospace, aeronautical, sustainable energy, mechanical, mechatronic or other engineering discipline and either:
• a PhD or equivalent experience in an area relevant to the School's research strengths in thermo-fluids, materials and structures, acoustics and vibrations, robotics and control, biomechanical engineering, and/or the application areas of energy, aerospace, sports, mechatronics, sustainability, marine engineering, aerodynamic design, assistive technologies and humanitarian engineering; or
• postgraduate qualifications in naval architecture, maritime/marine engineering, or systems engineering plus relevant industry experience
• A commitment to excellence in teaching and an ability to teach courses relevant to the School of Mechanical Engineering's programs (see www.adelaide.edu.au/course-outlines/ and search on MECH ENG), foundation engineering courses, and defence-related topics including Naval Engineering
• Ability to develop and deliver short courses, micro-credentials, Continuing Professional Education and online courses
• Ability to work well with colleagues as part of a high-performing team culture and to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with external partners
• Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion

Senior Lecturer (Level C)

• Meet above criteria as listed for Lecturer (Level B)
• A strong research track record relative to opportunity including demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding from government and/or industry and to develop research programs in the School’s areas of research strength; or significant industry experience with demonstrated ability to successfully attract resources and manage complex engineering projects to completion on budget and on time
• Demonstrated ability to inspire, attract, supervise, motivate and mentor students at all levels
• Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues as part of a high-performing team culture and to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with external partners
