Job Description

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about teaching but also has their own research interests. Our team of academics have diverse backgrounds in clinical medicine, allied health professions, education, psychology, human factors and medical anthropology, bringing together a range of perspectives in teaching and research in health professionals education.

At the Centre of Medical and Health Sciences Education (CMHSE) our post-graduate Masters in Clinical Education attracts a multidisciplinary group of clinicians from around New Zealand, with a growing cohort of PhD students. As part of the School of Medicine, we work closely with the undergraduate medical programme in professional skills, humanities, assessment and evaluation and have access to world-class simulation facilities. Our Faculty includes Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy, Optometry and Medical Sciences, providing an opportunity for collaboration across disciplines.

We have teaching and research interests in simulation-based team training for healthcare teams, interprofessional learning, professionalism, promoting wellbeing, workplace-based assessment and entrustment decisions, and qualitative methodologies.

Reporting to the Head of Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education, the primary responsibilities for this position are:

  • Teaching on our Masters in Clinical Education, and the undergraduate medical programme.
  • PhD and Masters research student supervision.
  • Leadership in promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning within the School of Medicine and FMHS.
  • Research relevant to undergraduate and/or postgraduate health professionals education.

This position offers up to 0.7 of full-time for an academic, or a suitably qualified clinician seeking a split clinical/academic appointment. Experience in health professionals education or a closely-related field and a Masters or PhD degree in this area would be highly desirable.
