Junior Professorship (W1) in Classics

initially limited to a three-year contract, to be filled at the earliest possible date. Following a positive interim evaluation, the contract will be extended to a total of six years.

We welcome your application if you would like to represent the subject area of Classics with commitment and have a strong profile in Classical Philology / Classical Greek. We expect you to perform teaching tasks in the cross-faculty Master's programme Classical Studies as well as to represent Classical Greek in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes of the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies. You will have the opportunity to implement your own cultural studies perspectives. Furthermore, we expect you to develop a range of courses held in English. We assume your active collaboration within the Institute of Classical Philology and your participation in the academic selfadministration especially at the Faculty and at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Your teaching responsibility during the first three years is 4 semester hours per week, followed by 6 semester hours per week. We are looking for a scientist who in their research and teaching focuses on the culture and literature of ancient Greece, in order to place particular emphasis on the Emerging Field 'Societal Change' within the Research Priority Area 'Culture and Societal Change' of TU Dresden as part of the University's Strategy of Excellence. Your Junior Professorship will contribute to raising the profile of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at TU Dresden.

Therefore, proven experience in externally funded research on the basis of close interdisciplinary cooperation (including within the field of Classical Studies) is assumed. Both reference to the research interests of the CRC 1285 'Invectivity. Constellations and Dynamics of Disparagement' and an international orientation of your research are desirable. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG). To be eligible for the position, you must have a university degree in Classical Philology (Classical Greek and Latin), an excellent doctorate in the subject area of Classical Greek, teaching experience, and further academic achievements.

Evaluation criteria mutually agreed upon when the position is accepted will form the basis of the evaluation procedure. Essential elements of the evaluation will be the visibility of your own research in the form of qualified publications, the successful acquisition of projects (external research funding), your collaboration in national and international cooperations, and your positively evaluated teaching performance.
