Job Description

With limited supervision, the Grants Manager A will provide post-award research and financial administration support for individual investigators within the Department of Neurology. Although this position is mainly responsible for post-award, some pre-award may be required. Responsibilities include proposal preparation, budget development, subcontract setup and monitoring, transaction approval and monitoring, reporting, and business services for research investigators. Function as resource for sponsored program guidelines, policies and procedures. Act as liaison with School of Medicine administration, Research Services and Penn Center for Innovation. A bachelor's degree in accounting or other business field and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience in general accounting practices is required. Strong excel skills are required. Experience with PennERA, BEN Financials, Workday, Business Objects, and University guidelines/policy is strongly preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required. Ability to work independently, under pressure of deadlines, and ability to demonstrate attention to detail and a proactive work style are required.

The Grants Manager B will work more independently and actively participate in specific projects, including the annual budget submission. The Grants Manager B will work on the more complicated grants including Industry Sponsored Research Agreements with multiple subprojects and sub-contracts (including T32, U01, and P30 grants. Moreover, it is expected that the Grants Manager B candidate will have a greater grants management experience than the Grants Manager A candidate, such that s/he can make greater contributions, including engaging in financial analysis. A minimum of 5-7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Both positions report to the Administrative and Financial Officer within the department and has dotted line reporting line to the PSOM Office of Research Support Services.
