Predominantly funded by the Federal Government, the Faculty’s Rural Clinical School focuses on teaching excellence, social equality and research initiatives supporting local rural health outcomes. Major teaching campuses located in Albury-Wodonga, Coffs Harbour, Griffith, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga, sub campuses in Grafton and Kempsey, and an extensive network of clinical placement sites in smaller rural towns across NSW and north-eastern Victoria, exemplifies the School’s rural character and develops student appreciation of primary health care and interprofessional collaboration in rural communities.

The schools staffing profile consists of professional and academic staff including a number of conjoint appointments. Academic staff are drawn from the basic medical sciences and the disciplines of medicine, surgery, paediatrics, O&G, oncology, general practice, geriatrics, psychiatry, dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology, pathology, endocrinology, genetics, rehabilitation medicine, renal medicine and various allied health professions.https://rcs.med.unsw.edu.au/

The position holder will make a significant contribution to the undergraduate program of Medicine offered at UNSW Rural Clinical School, Wagga Wagga campus teaching a range of biomedical sciences. The position holder will be an emerging researcher willing to advance their research profile with publications in peer reviewed journals, applications for competitive funding, higher degree student supervision and contribute to academic administration functions in the Rural Clinical School. The role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer reports to Director of Medical Education, Wagga Wagga, and has nil direct reports. Skills and Experience:

Level B

  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant field with experience in working in an educational environment, or equivalent relevant professional expertise
  • Proven experience in delivery of quality teaching and curriculum development, including teaching in physiology and biomedical sciences at tertiary level
  • Evidence of proficiency in teaching as demonstrated by or eligibility for Higher Education Academy Fellowship (HEA)
  • Significant experience of large and small group undergraduate teaching within a relevant discipline
  • Previous experience with blended learning modalities and modern medical curricula and teaching methodologies
  • Emerging research track record in peer-reviewed publications and grant success with capacity to undertake scholarship or pedagogical research

Level C (in addition to the above)

  • Demonstrated experience in course design as well as knowledge of information technologies for the support of basic and clinical medical sciences including e-learning
  • Ability or capacity to provide expertise and academic leadership within a relevant sub-disciplinary area, including module convenorship and committee work
  • A proven record of achievement demonstrating excellence in teaching and supervision at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level with a strong commitment to rural health education
  • A strong track record of achievement in research, with publications in international disciplinary journals in related areas.
  • Demonstrated successful record interacting with government authorities and professional organisations
