Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 499953), to commence on or before October 1, 2020 for up to three years.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering / Environmental Science or closely related disciplines. Specialized knowledge in the following areas will be desirable: coastal / ocean engineering, computational fluid dynamics, environmental science, water resources and hydrology. Applicants with knowledge in urban flooding associated with extreme weather and typhoons are preferred, but those with general knowledge in coastal and ocean engineering are also encouraged to apply. A strong quantitative / mathematical background will be highly desirable. Capability or experience in using professional software in large scale simulations will be a definite asset.  Applicants should also be highly self-motivated, have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and the ability to work independently. The appointee will work on the research theme “Mitigating Mega-City Hazards: Coastal Engineering, Marine Hazards, Oceanic Waves” under the supervision of Professor K.W. Chow.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
