Role Description

We welcome applications from suitably qualified applicants experienced in fluid systems testing, high temperature mechanical testing, hazardous substance handling and safe disposal from within a laboratory environment.

As the UK’s only exclusively postgraduate university, Cranfield’s world-class expertise, large-scale facilities and unrivalled industry partnerships is creating leaders in technology and management globally.  Our distinctive expertise is in our deep understanding of technology and management and how these work together to benefit the world.

Our people are our most valuable resource and everyone has a role to play in shaping the future of our university, developing our learners, and transforming the businesses we work with. Learn more about Cranfield and our unique impact here. Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Find out more here.

This position is fully responsible for the full test rig assembly, maintenance, safe working and standard operating procedures necessary to fulfil this specialist capability in thermal performance testing including environment chamber & other mechanical testing, alongside established capabilities in fluid transport and thermal management. We are interested in hearing from applicants with a track record in technical organisation, development and delivery of associated operational test plans to meet customer specifications and thereby produce high quality test data within complex operational environments to assist business decision making e.g. aero engine components. The applicant will be required to be ‘hands on’ with the design and build of test rigs, as well as for general maintenance and operation of the facility.

In return, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key position, and to support world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.

At Cranfield we value Diversity and Inclusion, and aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together harmoniously with dignity and respect and realise their full potential. We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking. To further demonstrate our commitment to progressing gender diversity in STEM, we are members of WES & Working Families, and sponsors of International Women in Engineering Day.

Our equal opportunities and diversity monitoring has shown that that women and minority ethnic groups are currently underrepresented within the university and so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from these groups.  Find out more here.

As part of our commitment to support and develop Technical staff across the University, we have now also become a founding signatory of the Science Council's Technician Commitment. This is a sector wide, collaborative initiative led by the Science Council and supported by the 'Technicians Make It Happen' campaign, to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research.
