The School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering (SECTE) is one of the six Schools within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences (EIS) and is comprised of three academic disciplines, namely, electrical engineering, computer engineering and telecommunications engineering. There are currently 26 academic staff employed within the school. The appointees will be expected to undertake the roles within the SECTE.

The Power and Energy Research Group has excellent track record in innovative research and development in the area of power and energy systems engineering. The vision of the group is to establish a centre of excellence in power and energy that can help industries to prepare to manage global energy transition, promote sustainability and resilience, and foster innovation through research and technology to equip engineers, scientists and professionals. The Power and Energy Group is seeking high-calibre candidate, who has expertise in the areas of solid-state transformers, multi-level converters, power system control and power electronic applications to power systems, to work in the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project, "A Next Generation Smart Solid-State Transformer for Power Grid Applications".

The position will be expected to make significant contributions to future power and energy engineering research activities within the School. The position expects a strong power electronic hardware focus and will involve a high level of R&D activities in the fields of power electrics and control with application to power systems. The candidate will work closely with the PhD students and the Chief Investigators of the project. The candidate will play a key role in developing the next generation smart solid-state transformers that meets the requirements of the project.

The successful applicant will have a PhD degree in electrical power engineering with a strong background in power electronic design. Research experience in laboratory prototype development, power electronic converter design, power converter control, high frequency transformers, computer simulations, modelling and control of grid connected renewables, interconnected power grids, and/or storage system integration with renewables would be extremely beneficial, and will be highly valued during the selection process. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to clearly and concisely report on their research and findings to a number of different audiences, and therefore excellent communication skills are essential.
