ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS CENTER POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATEMIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), to assume a position in the area of energy systems optimization, with a focus on the investigation of distribution system level impacts of deployment of distributed energy resources. Will work with MITEI researchers to study the impact of distributed energy resources in future low-carbon electricity systems at distribution level under different tariff designs as well as in the bulk power system. The responsibilities will include formulating and coding optimization and simulation models to characterize economic behavior and represent distribution power flows, collecting and analyzing data, developing artificial-intelligence control strategies for distributed energy resources, and discussing and proposing regulatory and policy measures to advance decarbonization.

The position offers an opportunity to interact and work closely with researchers at MIT and be part of MITEI’s Electric Power Systems Low-Carbon Energy Center.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in an engineering discipline with knowledge of energy systems, optimization, and economics; expertise and a relevant track record formulating and solving optimization models; working knowledge of power systems and the various grid technologies; experience with handling large data sets; demonstrated experience using one or more of the following programming languages--Julia, GAMS, Python, and/or MATLAB; ability to regularly present research results in sponsor meetings and center workshops and publish papers at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals; excellent communication skills; ability to work independently with limited supervision and to prioritize work to meet deadlines; and fluency in spoken and written English. Job #18661
