Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Applied English Studies (Ref.: 499811), to commence on September 1, 2020, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants must have a recognized Master's degree and at least 10 years’ relevant English language teaching experience at university level, with significant experience in course management and leadership.  They must also have a proven track record of successful teaching and learning project outcomes. Possession of a Ph.D. degree would be an advantage.  The appointee will be required to: lead and fully participate in Centre development projects and research; take a leadership role in designing, producing, evaluating and revising innovative, research-informed teaching and learning materials; lead and participate in service work, e.g. Centre-wide and Faculty committees; mentor junior staff and assist them in evaluating their performance to help them identify professional development goals; and teach across a range of courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Centre’s current development plans involve projects related to: (i) academic literacy teaching materials development and pedagogy for undergraduate students; (ii) out-of-class communication support materials development and pedagogy in four strands, e.g. writing, speaking, digital literacy and general language advising; (iii) blended-learning materials development and pedagogy; (iv) experiential learning materials development and pedagogy; (v) engaging students effectively as partners to improve the work of the Centre.

For this role, the Centre is specifically looking for candidates who can articulate strategies related to (v), i.e. engaging students effectively as partners to improve the work of the Centre. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to give a short PowerPoint presentation about this at the time of the selection interview. The Centre is also looking for applicants with a proven record of leading professional development initiatives within a language centre.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
