The Department of Computer Science has an international reputation for teaching and research, with 58 academic staff, 20 adjunct lecturer staff, and 65 research students and postdoctoral research staff. With a history going back to 1958, the Department teaches one of the largest cohorts of undergraduate students in the UK, and also delivers a thriving online computer science degree programme.

Main duties and responsibilities
The duties will include teaching and assessing modules in the following Digital Forensics subject areas:

  • Digital Forensic Investigative process and digital evidence handling
  • Cyber security principles and legal framework in relation to digital forensics
  • Understanding of data storage and experience with data recovery techniques
  • Skills in using digital forensics tools such as EnCase, FTK, Autopsy

You will be expected to contribute to learning and teaching relevant core computer science topics, act as module lead, participate in curriculum review and in development and design of new modules. 

You will make a strong contribution to the national and international profile of the course. You will supervise student projects at all levels and be responsible for student pastoral care. You will strengthen the research culture in the Department by pursuing research as part of a larger research team, seeking external funding, publishing papers, supervising research students, and participating in business development activities as appropriate. 

Skills and experience required
You will have demonstratable experience of teaching and lecturing in the above computer science subject areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and you will have a good understanding of the nature of higher education and the student experience. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English and an ability to relate to and teach computer science subjects to a diverse student group. 

You will be an active researcher and it is also desirable that you have a track record of publication, external research funding, collaboration across disciplines, experience of different types of assessment and higher education quality assurance.

Qualification required
You will hold a minimum of a Master’s Degree (or equivalent level qualification) in a relevant subject area. A professional qualification in Digital Forensics is desirable.
