  • Part-time (0.4), 12 month fixed-term contract. Base salary: $94,629 – $101,018 p.a. pro rata plus superannuation

About the opportunity 

A unique opportunity is available for an outstanding post-doctoral scholar to conduct research in T1T2 Translational Cancer Research, focusing on the translation of cancer research from the bench to the bedside. Bench research could cover a range of disciplines, including laboratory research, epidemiology, psychometrics and social science. Translation to the clinical setting could includeknowledge of disease mechanisms being used to develop new cancer diagnostics or treatments

The Research Associate will contribute to achieving the research priorities of the T1T2 Bench to Bedside Working Group through the provision of research and administrative support at the direction of the Chair and senior academic staff of the working group. The successful candidate will help in the development of research concepts and protocols, research grant applications, and initial research activities to support subsequent initiatives. A research career development program involving career assessment and skill development is also planned for the successful candidate.

  • a BSc or MSc, PhD in a medical research discipline
  • the ability to help drive translation of cancer research from the bench to the bedside
  • a good publication record relative to the opportunity
  • experience with preparing manuscripts and IP disclosure documents, presenting data at national and international meetings and training junior researchers
  • experience in managing ethical approvals and maintaining records relevant to their research

About us

Sydney Catalyst, the Translation Cancer Research Centre of Central Sydney and Regional NSW, aims to improve health outcomes for people affected by cancer through a translational research program. Sydney Catalyst is a multi-disciplinary/multi-institutional endeavour that brings together outstanding teams of researchers and clinicians from leading NSW institutions with the ability to undertake translational research across the full continuum. Sydney Catalyst is funded by a Translational Cancer Research grant from Cancer Institute NSW, for 5 years from July 2016. Oversight of Sydney Catalyst is the responsibility of the Governing Council, comprised of the Director and five lead investigators from renowned oncology institutions and groups. It is supported by a secretariat and receives advice from an expert Scientific Advisory Committee, with two themed Working Groups playing a more intimate role in planning and conducting specific T1, T2 and T3 research projects and other activities.
