The Department of Maritime and Mechanical Engineering seeks to appoint a post-doctoral Research Associate in Fluid Mechanics (Turbulence) to work on an EPSRC-funded research project on a fixed term contact. The post is available from 1 June 2020 for 30 months.
The research project considers numerical study of unsteady turbulence aiming to improve understanding of such flows and performance of turbulence models to predict its behaviour. You should hold a first degree in engineering, applied mathematics or physics with a PhD degree in fluid mechanics or related field. Extensive experience in DNS (or LES or RANS) or other numerical analysis, ideally with experience of using in-house DNS/LES along with experience in programming.
You will be required to attend regular project meetings; deliver presentations at conferences, seminars and group meetings; undertake the writing of high-quality journal and conference papers. Other attributes such as an ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving along with effective time-management skills and the ability to work to deadlines for project deliverables are essential.
LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.
Informal enquiries may be made to Dr. Mehdi Seddighi, m.seddighi@ljmu.ac.uk
Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.

Investing in Excellence
With over 4,000 students and 250 staff, the Faculty specialises in Astrophysics, Maritime and Mechanical Engineering; Electronics and Electrical Engineering; Built Environment; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. We have one overarching Engineering and Technology Research Institute and we are the coordinating Faculty for three cross-university groups: Open Labs, the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Lairdside, which provide the platforms for inter-disciplinary partnerships on a range of emerging initiatives and funding opportunities.
The Faculty is poised to make a real step-change in the way that academia
works with business, we have entered into a new partnership with the maritime industry to create a unique global knowledge hub to bridge the shortage of skills in the engineering and maritime sector. The hub will be further strengthened by a new Manufacturing Technology Centre to build knowledge and understanding about the manufacturing technologies.
