Job description

The School of Engineering & the Built Environment is delighted to offer a new post in Surveying. 

We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. All of our programmes are accredited by the relevant professional body, including the IET, RICS, CIAT and JBM.

We are currently undertaking a review of all of our activities, so now is a great time to join and help shape the future of our School.

The Role

The successful candidate shall be expected to make a significant contribution to the delivery of the BSc (Hons) programmes in Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying and Real Estate Surveying programmes and equivalent Graduate Apprentice degrees. They shall also contribute to the delivery of the MSc programmes in Real Estate Management and Investment and Construction Project Management.

Research in Surveying is also strongly encouraged by the School and activity currently centres on 4 contemporary challenges within the built environment:

  • Smart Places - designing the next generation of spaces where we live, work and play
  • Health and Wellbeing - using technology to keep us fit, active and independent
  • Sustainability and Resilience - making the best possible use of our natural resources
  • Tools and Methods - developing new approaches to improve the quality of life

This lecturing post is open to Building Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors and Real Estate Surveyors, with the appropriate qualifications and professional experience. Applicants from all three branches of Surveying are welcome to apply.

What we are looking for

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A strong background in the built environment; 
  • Doctoral level qualification;
  • Experience delivering Surveying programmes.

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience of research and innovation in either the urban planning, property development, building design, or construction sectors
  • Practical experience gained from professional employment in either of these industries.
