Job description

The School of Engineering & the Built Environment is delighted to offer two new posts in Architectural Technology. The School currently has the largest number of Architectural Technology students in the UK and is a CIAT Centre of Excellence. We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. We are home to the UK's largest Architectural Technology provision, including site visits as far afield as Germany, China and Dubai.

All of our programmes are accredited by the relevant professional body, including the IET, RICS, CIAT and JBM.

We are currently undertaking a review of all of our activities, so now is a great time to join and help shape the future of our School.

The Role

The successful candidates will contribute to the teaching and learning of Architectural Technology. From September 2020 the teaching and learning environment shall also benefit from significant investment in a new design studio and computer laboratory.

The successful candidates shall be expected to make a significant contribution to the teaching and learning of the BSc (Hons) programme in Architectural Technology and the equivalent Graduate Apprentice degree programme. They shall also be expected to support the provision of the MSc programme in Architectural Technology and Building Performance.

Research in Architectural Technology is also strongly encouraged by the School and activity currently centres on 4 contemporary challenges within the built environment:

  • Smart Places - designing the next generation of spaces where we live, work and play
  • Health and Wellbeing - using technology to keep us fit, active and independent
  • Sustainability and Resilience - making the best possible use of our natural resources
  • Tools and Methods - developing new approaches to improve the quality of life 

The School is also home to the Institute for Sustainable Construction.

What we are looking for

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A background in the built environment; 
  • Doctoral level qualification;
  • Experience delivering Architectural Technology programmes.

Desirable attributes

  • Experience of research and innovation in the design and build sector
  • Practical experience from professional employment in the construction industry
