Job Description Summary

Under a large, broad scope medical license, the Medical Health Physicist B/C will assist user groups in developing and conducting procedures for the safe use of radiation sources and radioactive materials; supervise technical staff. Implement programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Industry programs and maintain radiation doses ALARA. Audit compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements. Maintain strong working knowledge of applicable regulations and standards. Independently and routinely identify problem areas, analyze the issues and implement corrective actions. Plan, assign, and evaluate the work of technical staff. Write and update SOPs and policies to maintain compliance. Work on unique and complex projects.

Job Description

Responsibilities:
-Develop, direct, and implement policies and procedures for use of radioactive materials in research and clinical areas. Assist in identifying problems, analyzing issues and implementing connective actions.
-Review and incorporate government and industry radiation protection standards to assure University compliance and worker safety.
-Interact with research and clinical staff to ensure proper equipment function, security and maintain patient safety. Act as resource for PIs and Authorized Users. Investigate accidents and provide training.
-Act as lead on small to medium projects.
-Supervise health physics technician, conducting performance evaluation. Assign work to other health physics technicians, during their rotation to assigned areas. May assist with hiring process for new staff.
-Evaluate and interpret applicable regulations to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Industry programs and maintain radiation doses ALARA.
-Write and update SOPs and policies for assigned areas, ensuring current with changes in regulations and best practices.
-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MHP B Qualifications: MA/MS in Health Physics or equivalent radiation related science with 3-5 years of experience or BA/BS in Health Physics or equivalent radiation related science with 5-7 years of experience. Experience with Academic/Medical radiation safety program required. Board
certification by American Board of Health Physics, American Board of Radiology, or equivalent highly desired.

MHP C Qualifications: MA/MS in Health Physics or equivalent radiation related science with 7-10 years of experience or BA/BS in Health Physics or equivalent radiation related science with 10+ years of experience. Experience with Academic/Medical radiation safety program required. Board
certification by American Board of Health Physics, American Board of Radiology, or equivalent highly desired.
